Natural Acoustic Engineering

The Science Behind Wool

Acoustic Performance that Resonates.

Acoustic performance is a determining factor in the functional quality of contemporary spaces. Wool, due to its open fibrous structure, has a high capacity for sound absorption. In burel, this characteristic is enhanced by the felting process, resulting in a dense and stable material.

It can achieve acoustic absorption coefficients (αw) between 0.30 and 0.65, depending on thickness and construction system, particularly effective at medium and high frequencies associated with speech.

We Measure. We Test. We Prove.

Performance without Reverberation

Applied in panels, wall coverings, or suspended solutions, it enables durable acoustic conditioning strategies that are naturally fire-resistant and aligned with technical and regulatory requirements, particularly in offices and public spaces.

Measured Coefficients. Proven Silence.

Burel stands out for its unique technical properties, resulting from the compact structure of wool. Its acoustic performance ensures high sound absorption, reduced reverberation and limited sound propagation, with proven results up to 3150 kHz. This capacity makes it ideal for offices, hotels, commercial spaces and work areas, acting as a natural barrier against noise.

  • Thermal Conductivity: 0.0450 W/m·K (800 g burel)
  • Thermal Resistance: 0.27 m²·K/W – effective indoor temperature regulation
  • Water Resistance: 98.5%
  • Quick drying and high dirt repellency
  • Facilitates daily maintenance

This 100% wool fabric enables finishing solutions that combine superior
durability, color stability, and dimensional versatility. Ideal for demanding
interior design projects, it offers resistance, tactile comfort, and simplified
maintenance, allowing architects and designers to explore natural colors and
textures without compromising long-term performance.

  • Abrasion Resistance: up to 60,000 Martindale cycles (EN ISO 12947-2)
  • High color stability in natural shades
  • Available densities: 600 g/lm (150 cm); 800 g/lm (140 cm); 1100 g/lm (140 cm)
  • 100% wool material: recyclable, biodegradable, and reusable as fertiliser
  • Simple maintenance: periodic vacuuming
  • Wash on wool cycle (40°C)
  • Steam ironing (wool setting)

This naturally sourced material redefines the concept of interior performance,
combining superior acoustic and thermal properties with structural resistance
and certified safety. Wool, composed of keratin, offers unique characteristics
that cannot be replicated in other textile fibers - enabling innovative solutions
in comfort, energy efficiency, and functional design without compromising
aesthetics or sustainability.

  • Acoustic performance varies according to pattern/application → superior performance in panel structures
  • Fire reaction classification: C-s2, d0 (EN 13501-1:2007 + A1:2009)
  • Thermal conductivity testing (EN 12667:2001 / ISO 8301:1991)
  • Thermal Resistance: 0.51 m²·K/W
  • Thermal Conductivity: 0.0476 W/m·K
  • Chemical composition: keratin (sulfur-rich protein) → exclusive properties not found in other textile fibers
